49. EC COMICS LIBRARY: ATOM BOMB AND OTHER STORIES by Wallace Wood (Fantagraphics Books) Hoopla
This large collection contains all of Wallace Wood's war stories with Harvey Kurtzman from TWO-FISTED TALES and FRONTLINE COMBAT, as well as other EC war stories by other writers and his later work with Archie Goodwin on BLAZING COMBAT. Wood was a master of drawing machinery with character, intead of rigid tracings of blueprints. His panoramic drawings of battlefield scenes and large groups of fighting men also stand out.
"Choose Sides" may not be my favorite Kurtzman story but it gives Wood an excellent opportunity to use sound effects to build suspense and drive the story forward.
Wallace Wood also contributed covers to the EC war books, here's one illustrating a Wood-scripted interior story, "Perimeter".
