New Comics in September Part Two

I've been doing this New Alternative and Small Press Arrivals posting all year, so I should probably explain from time to time what this is I'm trying to accomplish. First off, I don't buy all of these comics! I love all of you creators, but I don't live in a freaking warehouse. I scour online bookstores (like Gosh Comics London) and alternative comix distributors (like Domino), and find the newest comix listed and share cover art with a link back to the seller. These self-published comix have small print runs so sell out rather quickly sometimes. Hopefully, these posts, even though they might quickly be out of date, can serve also as a historical record of the self-publishers who put self-expression over aping their favorite genre work or chasing a YA graphic novel deal (although those pursuits are certainly not discouraged by me). Keep on publishing your own! -Gary Usher (Inspiration from Clay Geerdes COMIX WORLD/WAVE and Steve Willis-edited CITY LIMITS GAZETTE from my misspent youth)

RJ CASEY HAS A NEW MONTHLY COLUMN "ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES" AT TCJ.COM COVERING THE KINDS OF COMICS WE LOVE.

THE COMICS JOURNAL has a long tradition of covering the more alternative side of small press self-published comics. Starting with their very first issue, TNJ #27 in 1976, Doug Fratz's "TNJ Listings: Fanzines" included Clay Geerdes and Bob Vojtko amongst the more fannish efforts, continuing through Dale Luciano's era-defining "Newave Comics Survey" in TCJ 96-102, and, of course,  the classic "Minimalism" column. Hopefully, RJ Casey has a long run with the new column. I always applaud the editors of TCJ for giving a little space to such an ethereal corner of the comics world.
